Valmai is a Calgary-based director, instructor, and Maritimer. Recent directing credits include The Lover (Lunchbox Theatre), Coast, The Goodbye Day, A Clean Slate Christmas, I AM I (Theatre Transit), Bugged, Fever Pitch (Evergreen Theatre) Calendar, Chicago, Private Lives (Keyano Theatre), Twas the Night Before Christmas (Stage West for Kids), In a World Created by a Drunken God (asst) (Downstage Theatre), Outnumbered (Soulocentric), Clean Slate, Castle in the Sky (Sage Theatre’s IGNITE!), Ash Girl (asst) (Theatre Mount Royal), Albertine in Five Times, A Kind of Alaska, Waiting on the Thunder (University of Calgary). As an instructor she has taught for Storybook Theatre, Pumphouse Theatres, Fish Creek, the University of Calgary, and Theatre Alberta’s Artstrek. She has worked across Canada, including directing inaugural productions of Pinter and Shakespeare in Iqaluit, NU, and producing outdoor theatre with Festival by the Marsh in Sackville, NB. Valmai holds an MFA Directing from the University of Calgary and a BA English and Drama from Mount Allison University. She has trained at the National Voice Intensive, the Banff Centre for the Arts, Magnetic North, DirectorsLabNorth, and was the 2012-13 RBC Emerging Director for Lunchbox Theatre. Valmai is the Artistic Producer for Evergreen Theatre.
